I'm Annie Flitcroft, a ceramic artist based on the south coast of the UK.
When my children started full time school I decided to have a day to myself and enrolled in a one day a week clay workshop at Portsmouth University. Unfortunately, before the year was out the course was shut down, but by that time, I was already hooked on the material and years later and a BA in Fine Art from Chichester University under my belt I am still completely absorbed by the magic of ceramics.
Having lived in Southsea for more than 30 years, I now work from my studio (Studio 12) which is set within the Old Portsmouth City sea defence walls ‘Hotwalls’ in Southsea.
I am a regular walker of the South Downs and Southsea sea front with my dog so the seasonal transformations and changing weather can’t do anything but inspire, and my current work reflects the symbiotic relationship that creates lichen - the trees here in Southsea and along the South Coast are covered in a multi coloured and diverse collection of beautiful, delicate lichens.
